*Special* California Day Thirteen and Fourteen

Friday…
We got up and packed early and headed out onto the road. It took us about 8 hours (with a few stops for food and gas) to drive to LA, with sandy desert landscapes as far as the eye can see…

The landscape had got considerably drier, less green and more barren the further south we drove, and we had taken the interstate rather than the Pacific Coast Highway, so we were more inland and didn’t have the scenic coast…
However, there were still some amazing views, lots of mountains and palm trees, and before we knew it we were in a dusky LA…

Saturday…
We finally packed everything up into 1 bag each – ditched the leaky tent and the sleeping bags and headed for the airport. We dropped off the car (Gareth was sad to see the Mustang go…) and caught the shuttle to the airport.

After a few hours of worriedly watching the Weather Channel, we got on the plane and flew to Detroit. I was a bit worried the flight might be cancelled as the reports were coming in about Sandy, but we were lucky and managed to fly back before it hit.
After many hours, we arrived in Heathrow at 11am Sunday morning.

We hope you’ve enjoyed our adventures, the best photos and a few videos will be posted soon.

Mr and Mrs Fudge xx
