A little early, as it’s not quite December, but here some festive work I have been working on…
The Duck Company UK released two new ducklings this year… a wooden duck dressed as Santa, and a white painted duck personalised with ribbon and painted messages. I photographed both of them, ready for the website and promotional e-shots:
I use an infinity cove made from a piece of white card inside a softbox, with two tungsten lights. The white background helps to make the ducks really stand out and shows them at their bright and colourful best!
There were hours of fun to be had with these, photographing them with the decorations and baubles, and with other ducks. I try to make the shots more interesting by adding other products or a few props, so that customers can see them in context regarding size, and also to make the website and the e-shots a bit more captivating. I got some good shots ready for the emails, which I used the normal DCUK e-shot branding, We use neutral beige and brown colours to compliment the natural wood and bamboo of the ducks, and also to enhance the vivid and bright colours of the painted products.
The emails go out to our database of customers, and the images and a brief message with a link to the site goes out to the Facebook page. After the success of the Diamond Jubilee duckling (who sold out 100 in 2 days) we weren’t sure how successful this would be… The Santa ducklings sold out within 3 days of the email going out, the Christmas ducklings are still in stock… but only just! The e-shots and the Facebook posts seem to be working well to get new products out and seen by potential customers.
If you want to order one, or see more ducks, head over to the website: www.theduckcompany.co.uk.
We’re hoping to have a bit of a re-brand for the ducks in the New Year, so this is probably the last you’ll see of the natural beige and brown, and Akzidenz Grotesk… keep your eyes peeled for more on that next year. For now though, you can see the existing site and some of my product photography here, and more of the e-shots that I have designed for The Duck Company UK here on my website.
